The Tunnel Surgery

Exposed tooth roots are the result of gum recession. A Tunnel procedure is often indicated when we come across multiple recessions in the same area. Gum grafting surgery can repair the defect and help to prevent additional recession in the future, gaining gum thickness wherever there is recession as well as covering the exposed root surface.

The Tunnel procedure can be done using a gum graft (your own gum tissue, synthetic gum or donor gum) as well as not using any gum graft at all. The beauty of this technique is that multiple teeth can be treated at once, also reducing the number of procedures and postoperative healing time. It is a microsurgical technique were scaring is minimised throughout the use of very small instruments that can promote better healing, achieving high aesthetic results.

Covering exposed roots can reduce tooth sensitivity as well as improve the aesthetics of your smile. Whether you have a gum graft to improve function or aesthetics, patients often receive the benefits of both: a beautiful new smile and improved periodontal health – your keys to smiling, eating and speaking with comfort and confidence.
