What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a system whereby a series of clear plastic aligners are used to straighten your teeth in small increments over a period of time. The Invisalign system combines your dentists’ diagnosis and subsequent prescription alongside extremely sophisticated computer graphics technology which develops your treatment plan by specifying the desired movements of your teeth over the course of your treatment. Once your treatment plan have been approved and confirmed by your dentist, a series of customised Invisalign aligners are produced made from a thermoplastic material uniquely developed specifically for you.
How does Invisalign work?
Each aligner in the series works individually, making slight adjustments to the tooth position. When the aligners are placed on the teeth, the teeth gradually shift from their current position towards the ideal position. The aligners can be changes weekly, and the treatment can be completed in a matter of a few months although the total number of aligners will vary depending on the complexity of your malocclusion.
The series of aligners that have been created for you will be individually numbered and will be dispensed to you by your doctor with specific instructions for use throughout each stage. Every aligner in your treatment plan should be worn for 20 to 22 hours per day, removing them only to eat, brush and floss.
Your Doctor will specify at what stage to switch to the next aligner in the series (usually every two weeks.) Treatment duration varies depending on the complexity of your doctor’s treatment plan. Unless instructed otherwise, you should be attending a follow up appointment with your doctor at a minimum of every 6 to 8 weeks to check your progress.
Benefits of Invisalign
Risks associated with Invisalign
There are minimal risks associated with this treatment which your Doctor can discuss with you in depth during consultation. The main consideration would be your commitment to the treatment as failure to wear the appliances for the required number of hours per day, not using the product as directed by your doctor or missing appointments can lengthen the overall treatment time and affect the ability to achieve the desired results

Almost all of the most common teeth-straightening and bite related issues can be treated well with Invisalign and the system allows your doctor to monitor your progress and ensure your aligners fit correctly every step of the way.
