Gum Treatment and Braces

Occasionally teeth will need to be exposed from underneath the gum with a very delicate technique in order to ensure the right type of gum is surrounding the tooth once the orthodontic movement commences. Occasionally, if gums are ignored, one can end up with severe recession (the tooth looking significantly longer) after the orthodontic treatment is completed.

In the same way, braces in teenagers who are going through different phases of growth and hormonal changes, can lead to gum growth making it very difficult for the orthodontist to work. We can do a very easy and gentle procedure to reduce the gummy smile while leaving more tooth exposed for the bracket to be glued on to.
